Alamo

 

The community of Alamo is nestled in the foothills of Mt. Diablo. Located in Contra Costa County, Alamo is an unincorporated community of only 14,750 residents. The East Bay Region of the San Francisco Bay Area is city and country close to entertainment and attractions.

 

The name “Alamo”, originally part of a Mexican land grant, means poplar or cottonwood in Spanish. The moderate temperatures and tranquil location encouraged quick growth, attracting early farmers and ranchers to the area. Pioneer Mary Ann Jones wrote in her diary “On every side, the valley and surrounding hills were covered with thick, velvety clover, and with wild oats standing waist high waving and rippling in the summer breeze, like the bosom of a lake”.

 

Alamo residents are intent on maintaining that summer breeze feeling throughout their community, establishing the Alamo Improvement Association in 1953 with the goal of advancing, improving and preserving properties and the community. The town offers boundless recreational opportunities. Visit Livorna Park for an invigorating game of sand court volleyball, picnic at the gazebo and watch youngsters frolicking on the playground. Or strap on your day pack and hike through Las Trampas Regional Wilderness Park. If you’re lucky, you’ll scare up some white tailed deer. For a more challenging hike, set your sights on one of the secluded waterfalls farther up the trail. In addition to the public parks, Alamo also meets the needs of the links aficionados who never miss an opportunity for a quick round of golf. Round Hill Country Club is just minutes away offering golf, tennis, swimming, banquet facilities, a restaurant and bar. Alamo is served by a variety of highly acclaimed school districts including Acalanes Union High School District, San Ramon Unified School District and Walnut Creek Elementary School District.
