Clayton

Welcome to Clayton

Clayton is located 34 miles outside of San Francisco and 25 miles outside of Oakland. Giving its residents access to a big city but still having the feeling of small-town community living. The city of Clayton is located in the rolling foothills leading right up to Mt. Diablo. Clayton started off as a small town but when the coal mining industry took off Clayton went with it. Clayton is now home to 11,000 people and has a variety of community activities to participate in and backs up to multiple open spaces.

Clayton was founded by Joel Henry Clayton in 1857 and in 1964 Clayton became officially incorporated. To this day Clayton still incorporates its history and characteristics the founders held true to heart in 1857. However, Clayton is now home to a variety of annual traditions such as the annual Rib Cook-off, the Oktoberfest celebration, and Concerts in The Grove summer series. These activities and many more are perfect to spend time with friends and family.

Clayton is a safe and small community with neighbors who turn into family. Children tend to go to the same schools together and Clayton is home to 3 different public schools. The small classroom and a small community setting allow the people of Clayton to feel as if they are a part of their community in a variety of ways.

Clayton is an enticing place to live for families because of the community feel and endless outdoor activities right outside your backyard. Clayton is known for its community charm and welcoming feel from all of its residents.
